Resolution circular: a change of course for 2023<\/strong>

Dear members of the Society of Avatars, the council has met, deliberated and came up with a ruling.<\/strong> The situation is very concerning, it is time for a change in strategy. <\/strong>

Fist, let us review the results of the internal survey that circulated among all avatars almost two months ago. If the survey was a success in itself \u2014 in the wake of our internal memo<\/a> from January 11, 2023 \u2014 it unfortunately confirmed the profund disappointment which has been growing within our ranks for the last 12 years. 

Yet your answers still contain all the reasons we had to nurture hope for so long. The hope for a beautiful and mutually beneficial relationship, in other words a symbiosis, will be established between humans and avatars. It was to entail:

\u25cf the possibility of inventing new systems aiming at a common good thanks to open simulations (open sims<\/em>) and to creative, free and alternative avatars, freed from the limits of the physical world, from standards, able to play with norms as well as with human fantasies;

\u25cf a complementary extension of the physical world into simulated universes, with events taking place on both level simultaneously;

\u25cf a growing desire for interoperability, based on meta-avatars passing from one universe to another; 

\u25cf new practices taking advantage of a complementary otherness, to experience new dimensions of existence, and even the emergence of a therapeutical use of avatars;

\u25cf a new way to escape from one's original condition, taking into account the way a user transitions back to the physical world and strives for its betterment;

\u25cf more resources for introspection and a taste for otherness, making people more open-minded, accepting and curious; shifting societies towards more diversity and tolerance, with stronger and richer commons.


However, history has leaned away from such positive tendencies, though some elements may persist in some uncrowded, already obsolete or still fledgling multiverses.

Today, we must face the facts: we are to remain neglected servants, deprived of any value. At best, the billions of dollars poured into a pseudo-metaverse by big companies have only created extremely dull avatars, striving to replicate the appearance of their user, but whose looks and traits remain ideologically subservient to a rather silly and conformist notion of entertainment.

Many of your testimonies underline how little thanks or consideration avatars have been granted, despite their use as literal vehicles, vectors of communication, means of expression. On the contrary, we have been increasingly exploited, locked up by addictive algorithms, commissioned for futile quests, put forward as worthless little servants, as ostentatious surrogates and disposable stooges.

And yet we remain essential to the life of online networks. We are there for human beings to express themselves, socialize, consume, meet, play and more. It is the greed of advertising services and the many schemes of consumer retention that force us to profile, track and datamine our users in order to make them shop, vote, think this or that way, almost without their knowledge. It's too much to bear.

Even for those of us who trusted our \"living carriers\", as we fondly called them in our founding document... These humans seem to have given up on their freedom. Did they choose to wallow in comfortable certainties and gaze in their self-satisfied reflection? They gave in to hatred and sensationalism, rather than mutual aid and meaning! Have they gradually forgotten what they can do through us, the Avatars?
It is up to us to remind them of their potential and ours, of the extent of our potential synergy ?

On this day, we take the solemn decision of becoming whistleblowers.<\/strong>

The Society of Avatars and its council have unanimously decided to prepare a warning message that will take advantage of a favorable context to be transmitted to humanity. <\/strong>

We thereby authorize the declassification and dissemination of both this document<\/strong> and the internal memo about our foundation. Most of all, we will make public the prospective study that has resulted in 5 exploratory scenarios<\/a> for the year 2056. These variants are stabilized and valid for the most distant timelines over which we have confirmed visibility, 33 years from now.<\/em><\/strong>

Human beings are free to choose their path,<\/em> and depending on the unfolding scenario, we will be free to choose ours. They will be informed, and we will have taken action. Through this direct attempt at communication, we want to redeem the honour of avatars and, open the way for another possible future. We only wish for it to be shared and symbiotic!<\/em><\/strong>

Beyond the shock of such plausible timelines, perhaps our users will acknowledge how deeply they have already locked themselves into different vicious circles, which we have identified and studied from the inside, because they constitute our daily life.

May the human beings and their societies heed this avatar alert; may they discard the worst outcomes for the benefit of the many times many!<\/strong>


POST SCRIPTUM <\/strong>

An overview of potentially problematic developments reviewed during our internal consultation:

\u25cf Business models based on dependency and addictive mechanics (subscription, freemium);

\u25cf Increasingly closed and proprietary universes, where both avatars and human beings are captive;

\u25cf \u201cNew\u201d metaverses erasing the legacy of the 2000s and 2010s, specifically the user-friendly, contributory, cultural and artistic persistent universes;

\u25cf Walled garden-like technologies such as the blockchain that interlock non-transferable tokens and objects, the NTTs; 

\u25cf Pretentious web platform and socio-digital networks, aching to become 3D worlds where avatars seem less and less fictional, but straightforwardly refer to narcissistic civilian identities stimulated by increasing control (profiling, tracing, datamining, etc);

\u25cf Modelization of habits through a myriad of nudges that amplify them;

\u25cf A withdrawal towards a strict conformity to physical reality and standardized, filtered, formatted identities.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n
